Subaru Crosstrek most crash-prone car despite high safety rating

On Behalf of | Sep 5, 2019 | Car Accidents

Among newer vehicle models, the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek sees the most number of at-fault crashes. This is according to a survey from Insurfy. The vehicle insurance comparison website looked into its database of more than 1.6 million insurance quotes came up with a list of 10 vehicles that are especially crash-prone. Residents of West Virginia should know that accidents have affected 13.64% of all vehicles in its database.

Analysts found that 25.81% of Crosstreks are involved in accidents. This was followed by the Honda HR-V, of which 25.7% have been affected by a collision. The list goes on with the Hyundai Elantra GT, Infiniti Q50, Subaru WRX, Mazda3, Acura ILX, Lexus CT, Chevrolet Trax and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport.

What’s so unique about the Crosstrek being No. 1 is that this vehicle was made a top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Despite the excessive number of crashes, though, most end in relatively few serious injuries for the Crosstrek occupants. The Crosstrek’s fuel efficiency and affordable cost also add to its appeal.

The other Subaru vehicle on Insurify’s list, the WRX, is not as highly regarded but is rather associated with the highest proportion of speeding offenses. The list is also interesting in that only one vehicle is American. Seven are Japanese and two Korean.

When it is clear who was at fault for a car crash, an injured victim may file a claim against the negligent driver’s insurance company. In fact, anyone in this state can file as long as he or she is less than 50% at fault; although, any degree of fault will naturally lower the amount a plaintiff is eligible to recover. For this and other reasons, victims may want legal representation before moving forward.
