The Statute of Limitations

Symptoms from an injury can sometimes take longer to appear, regardless of whether the injury was from a motor vehicle accident, a fall from slipping on pavement or from a faulty product. When you suffer an injury due to someone else's negligence, you may have a claim for damages, compensation or both. However, you only have a certain amount of time in which you can make your claim and that time limit may be different depending on the type of injury claimed.

Hazards to watch out for on Thanksgiving

Colder temperatures and the spread of the flu can lead to higher mortality rates during the winter months in West Virginia and throughout the country. However, car accidents are also a key cause of higher mortality rates from Thanksgiving onward. On Thanksgiving Day in 2012, there were 764 crashes that resulted in a fatality while there were 654 such crashes on Christmas Day in 2012.

Preventing teen accidents

Far too many teens are killed in traffic accidents each year. It is important for parents in West Virginia and around the country to teach their children safe driving practices in order to reduce their risk of becoming another statistic.

Feds seeking to reduce traffic deaths to zero

West Virginia motorists who are concerned about the increasing number of fatalities on the nation's roadways as reported through June 2016 may be interested in knowing about the Obama administration's goal to completely eliminate traffic deaths and injuries in this country within the next 30 years. Named Vision Zero in 1997 when it first surfaced in Sweden, the zero deaths idea had since spread elsewhere and had been previously adopted in several U.S. cities before the Transportation Department laid out its plan for the nation on Oct. 5.

Couple sues numerous parties after truck wreck

In October 2016, a West Virginia husband and wife filed a lawsuit against several defendants for a tanker truck wreck that took place in 2014. According to reports, the husband was driving the truck when its wheels exploded on a downhill slope, sending the vehicle plunging into a guardrail and a bunch of trees. The lawsuit claims that the defendants, who apparently provided the truck, acted negligently by not ensuring it was safe beforehand.

Don't use your driver's license to get a deer this year

Fall is approaching with inevitability. Next week will mark the vernal equinox, signaling the beginning of fall. Kids are back in school, football fills the weekends and Halloween candy waits to be pushed out of store aisles for Christmas decorations. And deer hunting season is just around the corner.

Troubling increase in highway deaths last year

Highway deaths increased last year at the fastest rate seen in almost 50 years. More than 35,000 Americans died in 2015, up by 7.2 percent from the previous year. Additionally, preliminary numbers from the first six months of this year indicate that the increase is continuing, and the nation could experience this year the highest number of traffic deaths seen in a decade. In West Virginia, by the end of August 157 people had died on the roads. In 2015, a total of 270 had died. It is unclear if West Virginia will buck the national fatality trend.
