2 dead in crash following police chase

On Behalf of | Jan 26, 2017 | Car Accidents

On Jan. 22, it was reported that a car accident that occurred in West Virginia left two people dead. The single-vehicle accident occurred after the driver attempted to flee when a police officer tried to pull the vehicle over for a traffic stop.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., a Loudoun Sheriff’s Deputy reportedly observed a vehicle that was heading north on Old Ox Road at high speeds. When the Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver failed to pull over and continued traveling at a high speed, passing through a red light. The deputy followed the vehicle, but eventually lost sight of it. A short time later, it was discovered that the driver had collided with a tree.

The deputy was able to pull the driver from the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames. However, the two passengers who were in the vehicle did not survive the accident. The driver, who was identified as a 25-year-old Ashburn man, was charged with reckless driving. Authorities were still investigating the accident and it was likely that the driver would face additional charges.

If a loved one was killed in a car crash that was caused by a reckless driver, family members may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the driver, even if the deceased loved one was a passenger in the vehicle. A personal injury attorney may assist with filing the lawsuit against the driver. In many cases, a lawyer may negotiate with the deceased person’s or reckless driver’s insurance companies to obtain compensation for the damages. If a settlement cannot be agreed upon out of court, an attorney may represent the family members at a trial.
